POROSITY WORK: NODE WORK FINAL ASSIGNMENT RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT

These are my 3 nodes I am using for my porosity experiment. They revolve around vision, space and impulse.

Vision This is the sight from one's perspective when given a different 'lens' to see through

Visibility When one cannot see, it does not exist in that moment in time

Impulse The forces that are subject to space are still forces

The Porosity Lens: My work will revolve around simple elements that explore the focus points within the benv2423 structure, where I will take a first-hand approach and subject myself to external forces (perspective) in order to demonstrate the constraints and framework of the structure through the use of force and editing of the model. The flowgraphs focus on action impulse, where objects can be manipulated to move in a forced and controlled method but are still subject to the laws of physics.

The experiment will be carried out through a scientific approach, where a control will be shown and results will be compared and assessed, as well as variables being changed. The aim is to see what effects and positions certain objects hold when impulsed, as well as utilising the environment; this will also be experimented using a different 'lens' in the material sense, where we will observe events through different settings in order to gain an elevated understanding as well as to appreciate differing visions for aesthetic appeal.

My tutorial subject focuses around the main element used in the porosity experiment 2, which is the action impulse. Action impulse is a physics-based node that works through 'forcing' the impulsed object to behave in a certain fashion.

The purpose of choosing this subject is to both introduce the flowgraph nodes for those who are familiar with visual scripting (but may not have used this particular node) and then to reinforce learning by building upon these nodes to create a more complex flowgraph.

The first tutorial deconstructs the basic foundations of the action impulse system, and utilises the key components needed in order for the node to operate. This is a generic example where the purpose is to expose to the audience what the purpose of this physics node is. It is aimed at those who have taken an interest and have started exploring the possibilities the sandbox editor has to offer and thus provides a pathway to achieving other goals.

The advanced example explores the almost unlimited potential the flowgraph system provides, allowing an expansive use of nodes to create what you may desire. This example implements a boost system, whereby the longer you hold down the input key, the more impulse is exerted. This is a play on the basic nature of the impulse where other nodes are also utilised to achieve a physics based goal.

I believe this two-example system, where a beginner may learn about the node followed by a more complex example allows for greater invention and to practice with different variables adjusted means experimentation is one of the most important ideas to learn from watching the research subject.

Crysis- Machinima Techniques and Modes of Documentary



This is a quick clip to show how I have created a sketchup model that is a lift with holes in the side to give a 360 view in a contained area.
With this lift, I plan to be able to show an explosion from all views and will follow a documentary style of part observational and part reflexive, as I myself do not know what exactly will happen during the explosions but am also witnessing first-hand. I believe this style is useful because it is adventurous and engaging; the first person perspective also simulates an audience's view. The final video will hopefully focus on a large range of simulations using different variables (ie. small object blown up using different explosives, medium and large the same) and transporting them in different parts of the environment too.

Sketchup and Blowing up

Hypothesis: The explosions are to be contained within a train station infrastructure. By placing several houses at differing locations, the intent is to capture the explosions of buildings and see how they interact with the landscape. There will be a control and the test will be repeated several times under different scenarios.







Basic explosives tests; prototype for porosity experiment. I have created ramps but am playing around with ideas in sketchup.

Crysis Level



This is my level which I have came up with using the benv 2423 objects. I just played around with the settings to make my "train station" level. The texture/layer paint on the ground is alien with snow and ice grass.

WEEK ONE


Day One

This was my first time using crysis and sandbox and I was messing around with the settings. This is what I came up with during the workshop but I forgot to save it onto D: drive or bring a storage device. Very basic; testing terrain, different brush patterns and shapes to create a level for use.
